This guide is for you if you run swept-path checks in AutoTURN Online, which since 1 October 2026 is the swept-path module inside Transoft's InSTRATO platform, and you are weighing a move to PathSweeper. It covers the practical side: what you do on the first project, what carries over from AutoTURN Online and what does not, how close the results are, and how the pricing works. PathSweeper is our own product, so the limits are listed as plainly as the steps.

Who this is for

Switching tends to make sense for you if one of these applies:

  • You check swept paths on some projects, not every week. AutoTURN Online is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription per user. PathSweeper also has a one-time pass per project.
  • You need vehicles that are not in a library. Transoft states that AutoTURN Online does not currently support custom vehicles. PathSweeper has a vehicle editor, including semi-trailers, drawbar trailers and centre-axle trailers.
  • Your plans arrive as PDFs. PathSweeper imports PDF site plans directly, on the free tier.
  • You want to stay in the browser. Both tools run without a CAD licence, so nothing changes there.

It is probably not for you if you depend on a wide spread of guideline vehicles from countries PathSweeper does not cover, if you use InSTRATO's Parking Design module or comment-based reviews, or if a client or authority asks for AutoTURN output specifically. PathSweeper has no parking layout tool, no comment threads on shared projects and no direct Revit or Vectorworks integration.

Step by step: your first project

1. Export the site plan from CAD. Save the part of the plan you need as DWG or DXF, or print it to PDF. A 12d XML file or a JPEG or PNG image works as well. PDF, JPEG and PNG upload is free; DWG, DXF and 12d XML upload come with the pass. DWG files up to 80 MB are accepted.

2. Import and calibrate. Drop the file onto the canvas. Then calibrate the scale against a dimension you know, such as a lane width or a building edge. The DXF export later on is written in real-world millimetres, so this step decides whether the result fits your drawing. If you worked on a Google Maps base in AutoTURN Online, PathSweeper can import a calibrated satellite image instead (with the pass).

3. Pick the design vehicle or build it. PathSweeper ships 10 national guideline libraries with 107 official design vehicles: Germany (RBSV 2020), the United Kingdom, the United States (AASHTO), Australia (Austroads and AS 2890), France (CERTU), Spain (Norma 3.1-IC), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. If the vehicle you used in AutoTURN Online is not there, open the vehicle editor and enter wheelbase, overhangs, width and steering limits from the datasheet. The editor also builds articulated combinations with their hitch geometry.

4. Draw the path. Click the path onto the plan. You can choose between steering at standstill and steering while moving, and drive forward or in reverse. The swept envelope updates as you draw, and PathSweeper widens the arc on its own when a turn would exceed the maximum articulation angle of a combination.

5. Export back to CAD. Before you export, place the reference point on something you can also find in your drawing, such as a building corner. That point becomes the origin of the DXF. Export as DXF or DWG (with the pass), insert the file into your CAD drawing and move it from the marker onto the same point. The file contains the swept envelope, the path, the vehicle outlines and a data block with each vehicle's dimensions and turning radius on named layers. The site plan itself is not included, by design. PDF, PNG and JPEG export are free.

What transfers and what does not

Carries over?How
Site plans (DWG, DXF, 12d XML)YesUpload the same file; DWG, DXF and 12d XML need the pass
Site plans as PDF, JPEG or PNGYesUpload on the free tier
AutoTURN project filesNoNo import; redraw the paths on the imported plan
Paths and envelopes drawn in AutoTURN OnlineNoRedraw them; there is no editable import
Guideline vehiclesPartlyUse the PathSweeper library where it covers your country

Parking Design, comment reviews, Revit and Vectorworks integrationNoPathSweeper does not offer these

The vehicle library is the largest gap. Transoft advertises more than 2,800 standard and manufacturer-based vehicles; PathSweeper has 107. If the vehicle you need has a datasheet or published dimensions, the editor closes most of that gap. If it does not, AutoTURN Online is more likely to have it.

Accuracy

We cross-checked PathSweeper's engine against AutoTURN Online reference exports for all 13 German RBSV 2020 design vehicles, and the swept envelope areas agree within 0.5 percent for every vehicle. We ran this ourselves; it is not a third-party audit, and the method, every per-vehicle number and the known differences are in the engine validation report.

Pricing

The free tier includes the canvas editor, four generic standard vehicles (templates, not official design vehicles), PDF and image upload with scale calibration, and PDF, PNG and JPEG export. The Project Pass is a one-time payment of €39 per project, not per user, and adds the full vehicle catalogue, custom vehicles in the project, CAD upload and DXF and DWG export; the Annual Pass covers every project for €399 per year and is cancellable yearly. Users of AutoTURN Online or InSTRATO can get reduced first-year Annual Pass pricing; proof of an existing licence is required. Details on the switcher page.

Full price details are on the pricing page, and a feature-by-feature comparison is in PathSweeper vs AutoTURN Online.

Support while you switch

If a file does not import, a vehicle is hard to rebuild or a result looks different from what you expected, write to support@pathsweeper.com or use the contact page. The Annual Pass includes priority email support and a personal onboarding. If you send a file, say which AutoTURN Online result you are comparing against, so we can look at the same case.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. PathSweeper cannot open AutoTURN or AutoTURN Online project files. The route is through CAD exchange: you upload the site plan as DWG, DXF, 12d XML, PDF or an image, redraw the paths in PathSweeper and export the result as DXF or DWG back into your drawing.

Not as an import. PathSweeper ships its own national guideline libraries, and many guideline vehicles you used in AutoTURN Online will have a counterpart there. For any other vehicle, enter the dimensions from the manufacturer datasheet or the published guideline in the vehicle editor. Building and saving a custom vehicle is free; using it in a project needs a pass.

For the 13 German RBSV 2020 design vehicles in forward manoeuvres, the swept envelopes agree with AutoTURN Online reference exports within 0.5 percent of area. We ran that comparison ourselves; it is not a third-party audit. Other libraries and most reverse manoeuvres are not covered by that table, and the two tools differ by design in a few documented cases.

No. PathSweeper runs in the browser. You need a CAD program only if you want to place the exported DXF or DWG back into your own drawing, and anyone who already receives your CAD files can do that step.

Yes. Nothing in PathSweeper depends on your AutoTURN Online subscription. The free tier lets you check a few manoeuvres on a PDF or image plan before your renewal date, and the switcher code stays valid for 12 months after it is issued, so you can start the Annual Pass when your current term ends.
